At Clarke Opticians, we test for visual stress —difficulty reading from conventional printed pages. We first check if the eyes are working together correctly, then explore using coloured backgrounds to help with reading. Coloured overlays and tinted spectacle lenses may help those with and without dyslexia alike. Our new intuitive colourimeter prescribes precision tints for improved vision.
Colourimetry assessment is designed to help lessen visual stress by offering a range of precision tints. The Intuitive Colorimeter, used under the direction of an optometrist, assesses each individual and prescribes a specific tint for better vision. This colour may vary from the overlay. Plus, coloured lenses are more convenient than overlays for board and computer work and can be prescribed onto Cerium Precision tinted lenses.
The incidence of myopia is expected to increase significantly as lifestyle changes, with children taking part in more near-work activities like using digital devices, studying, reading and spending less time outdoors. Hereditary, behavioural and environmental factors also play a part.
Being able to have your child’s myopia diagnosed early not only corrects their vision now but can help slow the progression of myopia and preserve their vision and eye health for the future.
Do your eyes often feel dry or irritated? Do certain activities, like reading or working on the computer, make them scratchy? Are you wearing your contact lenses less because they're uncomfortable? Do your eyes water a lot?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may have dry eye syndrome. Dry eye happens when not enough tears are made, or the tears evaporate too quickly. This prevents the eyes from staying lubricated leading to symptoms like redness, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light.
We have specialist clinics to help with this common problem. With the right advice and products, we can reduce symptoms significantly. A three-month tailored treatment plan costs just £40.00 and includes an initial triage and questionnaire, full dry eye assessment, two follow-up appointments after one and then three months as well as help and ongoing support from our trained staff.
At Clarke Opticians, you can be seen for minor eye conditions such as redness or discomfort - without needing to pay for an eye test or visit a doctor. This includes irritation and inflammation, discharge, blurry vision, and foreign objects in the eye. An appointment will be set up depending on urgency, with 24-hour responses in urgent cases and a few days for routine appointments.
However, this is not a full-sight test. Major eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy are not covered by this service, so if these symptoms apply you may need to be referred to a hospital eye clinic.
