Eye Tests for Children
The NHS pays for your child's test up to the age of 16 and to 19 if still in full time education.
Like the dentist, children should visit the optometrist (optician) for a test at regular intervals up to six monthly. It is never too early to start - you do not have to wait until a child is old enough to read, tests can be done from six months old.
Problems such as squint need to be sorted out early on in life else they may become permanent. Good eyesight is obviously vital for your child to benefit fully from school.
At Clarke Opticians we want your child to have a positive view of a visit to the optometrist. We have toys and books to keep young children happy, and even a 'sweetie jar' for our young visitors.
