Continuous Wear Lenses
These are silicon hydrogels made from special materials that allow them to be worn 24 hours a day for one week, two weeks or one month (depending on brand) - put them in and forget about them until it's time to use a fresh pair.
In the past, contact lenses could not be worn continuously because the cornea (front of the eye) gets its oxygen direct from the air. Lack of sufficient oxygen causes serious damage and could possibly lead to sight loss if severe. Unlike ordinary contact lenses, these lenses allow oxygen to pass freely through to the cornea, allowing the cornea to 'breathe'.
They require minimal care as they are only removed to be replaced with a fresh pair.
Prices are from £25 to £32.50 per month.
